Symbols, similar to these, are used by traditional custodians in authentic Aboriginal Art. Symbols are part of a unique visual language and vary widely between the many different Aboriginal cultures found across Australia, there are a number of useful starting points that can help identify potential meanings. Our Australian symbols can provide a broader familiarity with their meaning when appreciating authentic Aboriginal Art.

Every individual has a different way of putting the symbols together to best represent the stories as they wanted to tell them, or as they were culturally obliged to use them. To accurately understand what Aboriginal symbols mean in an artwork, you need to have information direct from the artist.

Together we can share Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture.
